Freehand Quliting

This is my first attempt at freehand quiltitng. I am just sticking with plain stippling and it is not going too bad. I just have to remember to keep my speed even - so need more practice at foot control.

A big hat for a little girl.

Ok, so it is a little big, but she will grow. It is a very pretty little hat though. I want to get a copy of Make It Perfect "Lazy Day Hat". It looks like a lovely little pattern that would fit both my son and little girl.

Almost winter Pj's

My little man found my stash of John Deere flannel fabric and asked if I could make him something out of it. So I made a pair of John Deere pj's. They are a big hit. The top is just a white t-shirt with a tractor picture sewn on.

Katies Patch

I recently completed a disappering 9-patch block quilt for a niece of mine. I found the design on several other blogs and thought I would give it a go. This was one of the quickest quilts I have ever made. I just did some very simple diamonds inside the large squares to quilt it.

It is now on its way to the southern most part of New Zealand just in time for winter. This is the first quilt I have ever done with a wool wadding, but considering where it was going I thought it would be a bit warmer than cotton.

Starting Again

This is my beautiful little girl. A little girl who was so desperately wanted. A little girl who has helped to heal a very deep and painful wound. She is also the last little person my grandfather was to meet. He waited so long for her to arrive, he promised he would and now he is gone. He kept his promise.

Three years ago I started this blog then sort of forgot about it. This year I am going to try to post one blog every week of what I am working on. Lets see how I go.

I have a few projects that I want to do this year. I am going to make three little flowergirl dresses for my little girl and her two cousins for my sisters wedding in October. My sister has also asked if I could make her a quilt for a wedding present. That will be a big ask as I have only ever made single bed quilts, but I am willing to give it a go.

It's FINISHED!

Well, that only took 8 months to do, but I have finally made a play mate for my little man. I used a cutting style from Jan Mullins and by coincidence my colour choice was similar to that in which she used.

The bug obviously enjoys playing on it as it only took a few minutes to puke on it once I sat him down.

Anyway, we are now back from our little holiday in Sydney. It is was a nice weekend away visiting DH brother and his girlfriend. They enjoyed having the bug there even though he was evil all weekend. And this morning I found the reason - the 3rd white pointer has just made it's way through. No 1&2 came through with no fuss, but this one..... He has been having very little sleep, high temperature, runny nose, sore ear, not wanting to eat lumpy solids and general grumpyness. Well this morning he woke up in his own bed and I found the tooth and he was like a different child.


I took some of my hand sewing to Sydney and was able to do that while everyone else looked after the bug. I am now working on a jazzy jungle single bed quilt for the hammer plus two cot quilts.

Thought i would just add in a photo of the bug and his dad at Balmoral Beach in Sydney. He had a lovely time there playing in the sand and water (even thought it was a little cold). We also went for a walk through the city, ride on the ferry and visited Kirribilli House and Admiralty House.

The Beginning

This is first quilt I ever made. For those with a keen eye you will recognise it as a sampler quilt. It took nine lessons to make and I had a ball doing it.

The first thing I can ever remember sewing was a library bag for school. I would have been in grade two and it was hot pink. I ever put my initals on it. I still have that bag to this day. I then progressed to making my own school uniforms for primary and high school and took home economics at high school and was taught how to make clothes without a pattern (or make your own pattern).

Then one day when I have moved to attend uni I went to a Quilt and Craft Fair. That was it - I WAS TAKEN. I signed up for lessons at the fair with a shop and went too it. I have not stopped since. I even convinced my husband to buy me a BERNINA SEWING MACHINE for my birthday one year - the quilting edition. The local quilting store look after the bug while I go material shopping so it was meant to be.

Since my first quilt I have mostly made small quilts for friends. I have also made two other single bed quilts and a few raggy quilts (the bug loves his hot pink and purple raggy quilt). I would like to one day make a quilt for myself - will see......

Anyway time for one more photo - a week or so ago CGR (I think) had some beautiful nappies for sale. If anyone is wondering where the puppy dog one went - just have a look at this cute cloth tooshie...
